What is Swanson Stevia Liquid Extract?
There is no doubting the freight-train-like speed with which Stevia extract is taking over the world sweetener market. So much so in fact, that its seemingly exponentially expanding global market is finally starting to be reflected in its use in our everyday products, like saccharine fizzy drinks.
The sugar substitute itself is extracted from the Stevia plant (Stevia rebaudiana). Grown naturally in Paraguay and Brazil, Stevia has been used for centuries to not only sweeten food and drinks but has also played a role in treating stomach complaints and burns.
First discovered by the Guarani Indians who called it Kaa he-he (which translates as “sweet herb”). The Guarani used to pick the leaves of the Stevia shrub as it grew abundantly across the Amambay Mountain region. They would principally use it to enhance the bitter taste of mate (a type of acrid tea) as well as foul tasting herbal remedies. They were even known to chew it like a type of gum.
As the sweetest type of herb on earth, it’s not really a surprise that the modern market has caught up.
- Liquid Stevia Extract that is 100% alcohol free
- Use a tiny amount for impressive sweetness!

What is Swanson Stevia Liquid Extract used for?
Amazingly, in spite of the fact that it is calorie free, Stevia is estimated to be around 200 times more sweet than sugar. That means that you only need to add a little of regular Stevia extract to achieve the desired taste. In the case of Swanson Stevia Liquid Extract, that is even more true.
- An easy addition to any cup of coffee or tea
- Equally useful for adding to food
- Can be used as a sugar substitute in baking
By eliminating the need for carriers like powder, Swanson Stevia Liquid Extract allows you to drop in regulated doses of sweetness completely at will. Not only that but it does so with the only additions being a neutral base of deionised water and vegetable glycerine.
What’s really fantastic is that you can use Stevia in so many of the same ways you would sugar, just in far smaller measures. Baking is very much a reality with Stevia so cakes, cookies and even cocktails are a very real possibility.
What is the recommended dosage of Swanson Stevia Liquid Extract?
To be used as a dietary supplement. Use three to five drops or as desired. Because sedimentation may occur, be sure to shake well before using.
